Picture Book: Old Favourites

For this project I began by looking at some of my favourite books I read as a child.

The “Biff, Chip and Kipper” Books.

“Spot the Dog” Books

“Kipper” Books

“Dear Zoo” Book

I think they key to creating this picture book is not not over complicate my designs – if I keep them simple, I can add more, depending on how it looks.

I need to come up with my storyline, main characters and colour palette first, before I start thinking about my layout and sketching all my designs out.

I am hoping my upbringing with lots of younger siblings will be an advantage for me in this project, as I have lots of books to look at from home, as well as a history of reading a lot of them to my siblings when they were younger.

Project Four Brief: The Picture Book

For our fourth project this year we have been given the task to create a children’s picture book.

“This is a project about audience, communication and judgement. Taking complex multi tiered concepts and translating them through text and image in a way that engages a young audience is not a challenge to be taken lightly and is one of the most difficult tasks either an artist or writer can take on.”

REQUIREMENTS;

  • Select the audience you feel your work is primarily suited to between the age range of three and eleven. E.g 5-7 year olds.
  • The book is intended to deal with a contentious subject matter of your choosing
  • 8 pages in total; 1 front cover design, 1 rear design and 6 internal pages
  • A comprehensive synopsis of your book and its aims
